The ARCA West officials are looking forward to another great year of OK Tire Sportsman racing. Richard Michaud, the President of ARCA West will be announcing North and South driver's meetings very soon, so keep checking the website for the dates. I encourage current drivers and anyone interested in racing the ARCA West OK TIRE Sportsman series to come out. Richard will be in attendance to answer any questions and make some important announcements.

Race 5 of the ARCA West OK Tire Sportsman series had teams travelling to the Gold Pan Speedway in Quesnel. Under a cool cloudy sky, seventeen beautifully prepared Sportsman cars prepared to do battle on the small 3/8 mile track. The “Bristol” stop of the series would test the patience of the field. The B heat found Bobby Mears leading with the 71 of Dave Olsen pressuring on the high side. The two touched, spinning, allowing the 38 car of Lee Thomas to squeeze by and win the B Heat. The action continued in the A heat, with Darren Swan working the 6 car of Tim Christie on the high side. The two touched, sending the field scrambling to miss the spinning car of Swan. Back to the Green, Christy continued to hold off the 3 car of Logan Jewel for the win. The Feature would not disappoint. The 6 car of Sheldon Mayert lead the field to the green, with the 38 of Lee Thomas working the high side. The field squeezed down into turn one, making through the treacherous first lap. Laps continued as the drivers planned their strategies. Nearing mid race, the 71 car of Dave Olsen is forced to brake hard to miss another car, leaving the tight field scrambling to share the same piece of real-estate. In the melee, the 6 car of Christie is caught up, as is the 2 car of Chase Larson, both requiring a trip to pit road for service. The points leader Mark Berriau had to spin his car to miss the carnage. Though the car was undamaged, the spin sent him to the back of the field. The Race restarts with Dave Olsen making the pass for the lead, and Bob Williams putting pressure on the Top group. As the race winds down, Williams pressures Jewel, and races into 2nd spot. With 5 to go, and traffic tight, Williams and the leader Dave Olson battle it out. With three to go, Williams makes the pass and goes on to the top spot. Olsen settles for 2nd and Jewel holds onto the last podium spot. In a wild last lap battle with current WCSS champ Steve Lengert, Berriau salvages his night with a run to 4th position. Grimard, Mayert, Lengert and Thomas make it 4 wide to decide the 5th through 8th positions. Congratulations to all of the racers on a great night of racing.
